A brief history of the site:

1980's - The area was at the heart of London's property boom and was developed as 'London Bridge City' - the heart of which was the Hays Galleria (a mixed use property of offices and retail)

mid 1990's - The 'Pool of London Partnership' (PLP) was  and the Jubilee line was extended into the area in time for the millenium
2003 - More London Development near completion

The open spaces of the more london development were designed by Townshend Landscape Architects .
This development is in stark juxtaposition to the waterfront to the East of the develeopment. Whilst this development is striking, site has been designed strictly within it's site boundary, therefore, this needs to be used as a starting point for our urban development design, even though it is outside our site boundary.

London Bridge Viaduct

The London Bridge Viaduct is a develepment scheme by Network Rail. The development commenced in late 2009, and is due for completetion in 2012. The aim is to improve the number of trains that can run North-South over the river during rush hour, as well as providing major regeneration works at London Bridge station to not only ease current pedestrian traffic at the station but also to enable the station to deal with the increased commuter footfall from 'The Shard' which will have its own station entrance.

The London Bridge Viaduct is just a small part of the major regeneration works being undertaken within the Pool of London district. Including works being carried out on the historic Borough Mark roof, and regeneration of the area around the market

1st Team Meeting 23-01-2011

Site Visit (Joe Perkins, Eve Taylor, Finn Lawson [Siobhan Gallagher was unable to attend due to travel problems])

A Site boundary was established.

We then conducted a walk around the site boundary in order to establish S.W.O.T characteristics.

This also resulted in a change to the proposed boundary due to the large amount of redevelopment that has occured at the 'More London' development site.

And tasks were set to be achieved by 28th January:
Joe -
  1. Produce CAD mastermap
  2. Produce map showing site access and traffic flow through the site
  3. Collate photgraphs of site taken during site visit to illustrate SWOT analysis
Eve -
  1. Produce SWOT analysis map on CAD mastermap base, from discussions on site.
Finn -
  1. Produce mastermap of site to be scanned on 28th
  2. Download historic Digimap of site
  3. Gather information on sites of historic importance within the site
  4. Set up Blogger account
